THE CACTUS DUET EUROPEAN TOUR, November 2010
THE FRIENDLY FALCONS & THEIR FRIEND THE SNAKE
JEFFREY KUROSAKI AND TARA PELLETIER
tour details listed below
The Friendly Falcons are undertaking a five-country tour through Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, France and England. They are presenting, The Cactus Duet, a nomadic theatrical set that fits into a suitcase and is assembled on-site, incorporating music and kinetic sculpture to build a narrative about the inherent cyclicity in nature. The conceptual underpinnings, design, and form of the work reflect contemplations of nomadism and wandering. It is a performance of travel-friendly engineering and reductive editing, bringing with them only what can be carried, and customizing the show according to the site. All music is written by their musical alter ego, The Hawk is a Lonely Hunter.
The Friendly Falcons and Their Friend the Snake is the collaboration of New York artists Tara Pelletier and Jeffrey Kurosaki. Inspired by what they deem as life’s magnificent and miniature grandeurs, they create multi-layered narratives with sculpture, drawing, music and performance. Their work is like riding a wave of primary colors and absurdity with an undercurrent of melancholy and whimsy.
The Friendly Falcons exhibitions include: ABC No Rio, New York; Governor’s Island, New York; Artjail, New York; RPSC Gallery, Oakland, California; Wayne State University, Detroit; and Forum Gallery, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They were recipients of the Toby Devon Lewis Award in 2007 and recently finished a residency on Governors Island through the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
